ŠENČUR CULTURAL CENTER AND LIBRARY
The center of Sencur is defined by the heterogenous public realm. The most prominent building is the church with its associated buildings, forming a square with fan-shaped lawn.
The new building of the cultural center and library becomes the main cultural institution of the municipality. The volume of the new building is designed and positioned to re-establish the relationship between the built fabric and the outdoor areas.
The space in front of the new building is perceived as a carpet with a motif of irregular ellipses, formally reminiscent of potatoes, the most important crop from the area.
The building is designed as a compact volume with an accentuated sloping roof, which reinterprets the characteristics and proportions of the gable roofs of the surrounding buildings. Thus, it relates by volume to the existing context, while establishing its own presence.
Tectonic design of the facade with denser rhythm in the upper floors creates a transparent ground floor and a shaded library, reflecting the two functional entities of the building.
